Grasshopper & Evolutionary Scripting

Imagine the ability to solve puzzles or generate shapes and forms based on genetic selection, where given a set of constraints a "perfect" solution is arrived upon.
No need to imagine... the future is here! On Tuesday July 28th come witness this in action and learn how architects are beginning to use this powerful technology to design better buildings. Jordan Squires, a Computational Designer at AECOM, will introduce, explain, and demonstrate how this software is used. Starting with a brief introduction to node based programming for Rhino with Grasshopper, Jordan will then reveal the real magic with the addition of Galapagos, an evolutionary solver within Grasshopper.
Join us to witness one of the most powerful problem/puzzle solving tools in human history. Come just to absorb, or follow along on your laptop.
Jordan Squires is a Computational Designer at AECOM's Los Angeles Design Studio, where in his first year out of SCI-Arc with a Masters of Architecture and a merit thesis award, he has helped win both an AIA next LA award and an AZ peoples choices award for design excellence in the category of Concepts/Prototypes.
